Introducing the 2018 West Seattle Beer and Music Festival

8/1/2018

Confession: we don’t spend much time in Seattle. While we appreciate the city’s beer scene, we prefer to go out in Bellingham (less traffic, free parking) or sneak up north to Vancouver, BC for our big city thrills. On the few occasions when we do make it into the Emerald City, it’s for a damn good reason. Usually involving beer. We’d like to share one of those reasons with you today.

There’s a new beer festival in town!

West Seattle Beer and Music Festival 2018
Taking place the weekend of August 24-26, West Seattle Beer & Music Festival sounds like as good a reason as any for us to make the arduous slog into the city. Seriously though, it’s in West Seattle, so that’s a nice change of pace from the madness of downtown. West Seattle still has that charm of old Seattle, before Amazon/Starbucks/Microsoft made it big. Think little beach bungalows along Alki Beach, cute coffee shops, and a laid-back vibe.

Featuring 25 breweries with 60+ beers on tap, there’s gonna be something for everyone. We’re happy to see Bellingham represented by Wander and Kulshan — two of our favorite local breweries. Speaking of which, most of the breweries — but not all — are based in Washington, from Seattle favorites Fremont, Urban Family, and Machine House to Tenpin from Moses Lake. Oregon breweries will make an appearance as well, with Ecliptic, Pfriem, Pelican and more in the lineup. Oh, and Rainier will be there too. Did we mention there’s something for everyone?

In addition to beer, there will be plenty of food to go around. Local chefs will pair their bites with beer from attending breweries. And unlike most beer festivals we’ve been to, you can use your tokens to purchase food! Nobody’s going to go hungry (or thirsty) at this fest.

West Seattle Beer & Music Festival is more than just a beer fest. With “Music” included in the name, we’re willing to bet it plays a big part in the festivities. The lineup sounds funk and soul-heavy — think dancey tunes to keep the party going. And on Saturday night, headliner DJ Indica Jones closes out the show with “infectious grooves”. We dig it.

This all sounds pretty awesome, right? We’ll be there either Friday or Saturday and ya’ll should be, too. Give us a shout on Insta or Twitter if you decide to come out — we’d love to share a brew with you.

August 24-26 @ Alki Masonic Center

Tickets:
Tickets start at $25 for Sunday’s “Dog Day Afternoon” (yes, you can bring your dog) and go up to $85 for VIP sessions. The standard Friday - Saturday sessions are $40 - $45 for general admission. Remember, tokens can be spent on beer and food, so you’re getting a pretty good deal! Plus, a portion of proceeds will be given to Westside Baby — keeping kids safe, dry and warm.

Here’s the official word on what comes with admission:
With your admission to the festival, you will receive a souvenir tasting glass, tokens for tasting & “Sips & Bites”, outstanding local and national craft beers, music and a chance to talk to your favorite brewer (if you can catch them).

Tix are reportedly going fast, so buy tickets soon to make sure you get your preferred session time.
